Lewis Family Honoured with Permanent Recognition at Claremont Football Club

Author: Admin

As part of our NAIDOC Round celebrations on Saturday, the Claremont Football Club was proud to recognise a family whose connection to the Claremont Football Club stretches across two generations and several significant periods in our club’s history.

The Lewis family’s association with Claremont began with Irwin, who came to the club from Morawa via Christ Church Grammar School. A tough half-back, Irwin played 75 League games between 1958 and 1965 and was a member of Claremont’s 1964 premiership team.

His three sons would each go on to represent the Tigers and build football stories of their own.

Clayton was the first of the brothers to play League football for Claremont, making 25 senior appearances between 1979 and 1982.

Cameron followed shortly afterwards and became an important member of the club through the 1980s. He played 93 League games and was part of Claremont’s premiership teams in both 1987 and 1989.

Chris then continued the family connection, beginning his senior football journey at Claremont before embarking on an outstanding career with the West Coast Eagles. He played 215 games for West Coast, won the club champion award in 1990 and was a member of the Eagles’ 1992 and 1994 premiership teams. During that career, he also remained connected to Claremont and was part of the Tigers’ 1996 premiership side.

Across two generations, the Lewis family has made a remarkable contribution to this football club. To permanently acknowledge that contribution, the club was honoured to officially unveil the Lewis Family Entrance during Saturday’s NAIDOC Round celebrations.

We were delighted to welcome members of the Lewis family back to Claremont for this special occasion, including brothers Clayton, Cameron and Chris Lewis, alongside their sister Carolyn, and family members Irwin, Kenneale and Lucas Lewis. Thank you for joining us as we celebrated your family’s enduring contribution and lasting legacy at the Claremont Football Club.
