Tigers Kings of the Jungle
Claremont (Colts) have recorded a thumping 66-point win over Subiaco at the Showgrounds to cement their place on top of the ladder.
The Tigers’ fourth win from their past five games was built on a dominant opening term in which the side kicked four goals and held the Lions goalless, as the hosts prevailed 14.16 (100) to 4.10 (34).
The Tigers then held the Lions goalless in the final term with the hosts recording one of their best wins for the season.
The result was the eighth time Claremont have restricted their opposition to a score of under 10 goals in 2015.
Matt Guelfi, Ryan Murphy, Morgan Davies, Aden Wilkins, Declan Mountford and Bailey Rogers all won plenty of the football, while Jake Waterman was outstanding in his first game since round six due to State Under 18’s commitments.
The imposing forward took 11 marks and kicked four goals to go alongside more than 20 disposals, with the immense talent a recipient of some fine work up the field by a committed and hungry Tigers’ outfit.
Jacob Sideris and Wilkins both kicked two goals on a day where the Tigers had nine individual goal kickers and could’ve won by a bigger margin if not for some wayward kicking.
Nicholas Barrow and Shaquille Morton were two other players to have a significant impact on the result, with the pair setting the tone through their repeat efforts and nine tackles combined.
After taking a 26-point lead at quarter-time, the Tigers extended the margin to 34 at the long break before a seven-goal-to-two second half saw the team receive a significant percentage boost on the back of a ferocious work-rate and appetite for the contest.
An even bigger win could’ve transpired had the Tigers bettered their return of 5.7 in the final term, however, the team appears to be hitting their straps as the final stretch of the season approaches.
The Tigers will now look to make it three straight wins when they travel to ATOM Stadium in round 14 to face East Fremantle.
