Round 3 Preview Claremont vs. Subiaco
Claremont will be looking to make it consecutive wins when they host Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval this Saturday.
The Tigers recorded their first win of the season with a 12 point victory over reigning premiers West Perth in round two, while Subiaco made it consecutive wins with a 56 point thrashing of East Fremantle.
Most pleasing for Tigers coach Michael Broadbridge was the response the team showed following the disappointing defeat to Perth in round one.
The Tigers intensity, endeavour and pressure was back to its best at Arena Joondalup, and the side will be looking to replicate that against a white-hot Lions outfit.
The Tigers have enjoyed a recent dominance over the Lions, winning 11 of the last 12 encounters between the two sides.
Forward Jack Bradshaw is a good chance to line up against the Lions having overcome an ankle concern, although competition for spots will be strong following the impressive League debuts by Jack Richardson and Keegan Knott.
Vice-captain Trinity Handley will miss a second game with a hamstring injury.
The Tigers will look to gain an advantage in the ruck with Darcy Cameron and Mark Seaby coming up against the likes of Frank Stockley and Lachlan Delahunty.
Cameron was outstanding in the win over the Falcons, having 49 hit outs in only his second League game.
He will be looking to give midfielders Jake Murphy and Luke Blackwell first use of the football after they combined for 63 disposals and 25 clearances against the Falcons.
The Tigers defence will have to be on their guard, with the Lions boasting an array of goal kickers including Rhys Waters who has kicked seven goals in two games.
Tom Ledger was outstanding in the backline last round with his attack on the football and he’ll be looking to set up scoring opportunities with his run and rebound.
The Tigers will be wary of Shaun Hildebrandt, Wayde Twomey and Jason Bristow after strong starts to the season, while the teams’ accuracy in front of goal will also pose a threat, having kicked 33.21 so far this season.
The fixture is Claremont’s first home game for 2014, with the Showgrounds not available until round six.
Bounce down is at 12.30pm.
