Foster To Play On In 2014

Dual premiership player Andrew Foster has reversed his decision to retire, and will pull on the boots for Claremont this season.

After announcing his retirement at the end of last season, the 116 game midfielder has seen work commitments fall his way.

“I’ve been able to free up a bit of time on the weekend’s to play. Previously, probably for the last four years, I’ve worked before games,” Foster said.

“It gets difficult when you’re working before a game, you get a bit stale after a while.

“It was just due to work commitments and now I’ve got a bit more time on my hands to play at this level.”

Foster has been training on his own over the summer, and has already reaped the benefits.

“Being able to train on my own, I just feel a lot more mentally and physically fresher,” Foster said.

“I’ve been doing my own running to keep fit.

“I feel good and I’m looking forward to the year.”

After a high turnover of players during the off season, Foster is looking at the positives.

“What it does is give younger guys an opportunity that probably wasn’t there the last couple of years,” Foster said.

“It allows them to step up and play at League level.”

With the new alignment seeing Eagles-listed players playing with East Perth in the WAFL and Fremantle players playing with Peel receiving a mixed response, Foster is supportive of the move.

“I don’t have an issue with it. I think it’s good for (WAFL) players to play against AFL players,” Foster said.

Foster played nine games with the Fremantle Dockers from 2007-09.
