WA Premier Colin Barnett To Relive Football Glories

Monday, October 21, 2013 - 1:57 PM

West Australian Premier Colin Barnett will swap political footballs for real ones next weekend, when he relives former glories to take part in a legends game for his beloved Claremont Tigers.

Mr Barnett enjoyed a decorated football career with the WAFL club in his teens and early 20s before turning to economics and then politics.

The 63-year-old Premier has promised to pull on the boots for at least 15 minutes at Claremont Oval, alongside WA football greats including Don Pyke, who has recently been appointed as an assistant coach for the West Coast Eagles.

Terry Waldron, Minister for Sport and Recreation will also be pulling on the boots to take part in what should be an action packed and entertaining legends match.

The match will take place as a part of the Claremont Football Club's "Calling Last Drinks" event to be held on Saturday 26th Oct. The event will celebrate the end of an era at Tigerland as the club will relocate to the Claremont Showgrounds while the current facilities are redeveloped into a state of the art WAFL venue.

The event begins at 2.15pm with the Legends Match bouncedown taking place at 3.45pm. There will be a host of other activities taking place throughout the day including History Walks, Kids Activities, Meeting of Past and Present Club Legends and the much anticipated announcement of the CFC "Best Team Ever".

$5 entry fee for Adults while the kids are welcome for free.
