WAFL Round 19 Results
ROUND 19 of the WAFL season was played in some terrible conditions across Perth but the results saw West Perth and East Fremantle score big derby wins, Swan Districts move back up to third position and Claremont return to the winner's list.
West Perth further consolidated second place with a 10.14 (74) to 6.8 (44) win over East Perth at Arena Joondalup while East Fremantle thumped South Fremantle 20.18 (138) to 8.7 (55) at Fremantle Oval.
Claremont then won over Subiaco 7.16 (58) to 5.9 (39) at a mud-covered Medibank Stadium in Leederville while Swan Districts shook off Peel Thunder to win 12.9 (81) to 10.10 (70) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval.
The results mean that Claremont (14-2) remains clear on top of the ladder and West Perth (11-5) is secure in second. Swan Districts (9-7) is third and Perth (9-6) fourth followed by East Perth (9-6) and East Fremantle (8-8).
Subiaco (5-11), South Fremantle (3-13) and Peel Thunder (3-13) are making up the numbers in 2013.
Claremont kicked the only two goals of the first quarter against Subiaco against a Medibank Stadium filled with mud, and the Tigers maintained that two-goal advantage virtually all afternoon before winning by 19 points.
Chad Jones and Ian Richardson both worked hard up forward for the Tigers and kicked two goals apiece while in the middle Luke Blackwell was outstanding with 31 possessions.
Ruckman Mark Seaby defied the conditions to finish with 19 touches, nine marks and 33 hit outs while Andrew Foster racked up 21 possessions, Hugo Breakey 17 and Ryan Neates 17.
Jarrod Kayler-Thomson racked up 34 possessions for Subiaco with George Hampson finishing with 26 and Andrew McDougall 18 to go with 17 hit outs. Aidan Parker also finished with 14 touches and 26 hit outs while Daniel Leishman did well in defence holding Paul Medhurst goalless.
