Round 15 | Rogers Match Report – CFC vs West Perth
Round 15 Rogers Match Report – Claremont Tigers vs West Perth Falcons:
In a heavily contested game, the Claremont Tigers were defeated by ladder leaders West Perth, despite their determined efforts.
Although the Tigers managed to enter their forward 50 in most quarters, they were unable to score a goal throughout the entire match. This loss puts West Perth in a strong position to win the flag in 2023.
West Perth didn't overpower Claremont with their running abilities, but they displayed cleaner skills and class when handling the football. Their effective handball game often forced the ball forward with long-range handballs exposing Claremont on the outside of packs.
While many Claremont players performed well individually, the team struggled to come together cohesively, leading to a reality check before the finals. This loss provides them with areas to improve and tighten their game.
West Perth's victory establishes them as clear premiership favourites heading into the 2023 finals season. If Claremont faces them again in the final’s series, they will need to address the challenges posed by West Perth.
The final score line was 0.1 (1) to 7.6 (48).
Despite the challenging outcome and West Perth's dominance in the midfield, Charlotte Tompkin, Ruby Freeman, Jayde Muskia, and May Nicholson had commendable performances for Claremont. While their execution may have lacked cohesiveness, they showcased tremendous effort, highlighted by their relentless running and tackling. Nicholson and Freeman, in particular, stood out in today's match.
India Bonadeo showcased her versatility as a utility player, starting in the backline when the game began to slip away. In an attempt to generate more run and carry, she was deployed forward in the second half. Although this led to more forward 50 entries for Claremont, they were unable to convert them into scores.
Defensively, Jessie McCarthy and Harmony Belotti made valuable contributions, even though it may not have been reflected in the score line. They played key roles in easing the onslaught from West Perth and have become important assets in Claremont's defence.
In the final round, round 16 of the 2023 home and away season, Claremont will face East Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium at 12 pm. While Claremont has secured a spot in the finals, they will strive to secure the second position, which is still up for contention after their loss this week. South Fremantle currently sits in third place, and if they defeat Swan Districts while Claremont falls to East Perth, the Bulldogs will claim the second position. This adds pressure and momentum for Claremont to win this match.
Similarly, East Perth will come out fighting strongly as they are fighting for their finals campaign dream. Currently tied on 28 points with East Fremantle in fourth place, this match carries significant importance for the final ladder rankings and the overall structure of the finals campaign. Hopefully, the loss to West Perth serves as motivation for Claremont to redeem themselves and sets them up for a successful matchup.
