Round 11 | Rogers Cup Match Report
Round 11 Rogers Match Report – Claremont Tigers vs Perth Demons:
Claremont continued their winning streak by securing their fourth consecutive victory, confidently defeating the Perth Demons for the second time this year at their home ground.
The Tigers emerged triumphant with a commanding 43-point margin, while the Demons still struggle to secure their first win of the season.
Although the scoreboard might not reflect it, the game was fiercely competitive, much like their previous encounter earlier in the year, where the Demons provided a tough challenge.
Claremont showcased a well-structured game plan, with several strategic coaching decisions contributing to a consistent flow of the ball. The Tigers returned to their top form, exhibiting both courage and determination, as their aggressive contest skills were on full display throughout the match.
Despite having 20 scoring shots compared to the Demons' 7, the Tigers couldn't capitalise on all their opportunities. However, their ability to generate set shots and create scoring chances inside the forward 50 ultimately played a crucial role in securing the victory.
When the final siren sounded, the scoreboard showed a final result of 8.12 (60) in favour of the Tigers, while the Demons managed 2.5 (17) points.
Amy Evans had an impressive performance in the match, making her mark not only on the scoreboard but also dominating the Half Forward position. Her aggressive approach in the contest consistently put pressure on the opposition's defense, and she tirelessly contributed with one percent efforts such as tackling and applying pressure to disrupt kicks.
In addition to her defensive contributions, Evans showcased her ball-winning ability and emerged as one of the leading possession winners on the ground.
Another standout player, India Bonadeo, delivered yet another spectacular performance. Positioned in half back, she caused significant chaos and headaches for the opposing team. Bonadeo's ability to read the ball well and roam freely granted her the opportunity to take intercept marks and launch blistering counterattacks.
The highlight of the match is when she took a mark behind play and instinctively ran through a pack of seven opponents and teammates as if time stood still. Whilst not leading to a scoring opportunity this display of brilliance left the supporters in the stands in awe.
May Nicholson and Jess Freame had impressive performances in today's matchup, particularly excelling in center bounces and showcasing their excellent handball skills.
Nicholson's versatility saw her rotating onto a wing, while Freame played a pivotal role as an inside midfielder. Together with Bec Anderson, who served as a centrepiece in the midfield mix, the Tigers found success in securing steady clearances. Anderson displayed great skill in retrieving ground balls cleanly, and she even managed to contribute a goal to her name.
The game's outcome was largely determined in the first half, with the majority of goals being scored during the first two quarters. Two standout contributors were Jessica Rava and Savannah Muir, both of which kicked two goals each throughout the afternoon.
Muir has been quite accurate this year, scoring 12 goals and only 3 behinds after 11 rounds, which has propelled her to the second spot on the Rogers Cup goal kicking leaderboard.
The upcoming match between Claremont and Subiaco is scheduled for this Saturday at 9:40am at Revo Fitness Stadium. Subiaco, much like the Perth Demons, is facing a challenging streak of six consecutive losses.
With this being another home game for Claremont, one would expect them to come out with great intensity and determination, especially considering the upcoming bye week. As they aim to secure a spot in the finals, it becomes crucial for Claremont to solidify their position as the second-ranked team on the ladder in order to have the advantage of hosting a home final.
Having only suffered one defeat at home this year, Claremont can draw confidence from their strong performances on their home turf. This confidence will undoubtedly bolster their spirits as they look to maintain their winning momentum and further solidify their position on the ladder.
The extended rest period on the horizon adds an additional incentive for Claremont to give their all in this upcoming match against Subiaco. The team will be keen to build a strong foundation before the bye week and gear up for the finals campaign ahead.
