Match Day Reporter
Claremont Rogers triumphs with 54-point win over Subiaco on a cold and windy day at Leederville oval.
The Tigers held the Lions to their equal lowest score for the year, just conceding one goal as a commanding Claremont enjoyed in a goal scoring frenzy. Today's match provided a valuable assessment of the team's overall structure, as clean ball skills and smooth transitional play were evident despite the unfavourable weather conditions.
Claremont demonstrated their forward line's ability to establish strong connections with the midfielders. The Tigers' forwards displayed excellent positioning, utilising well-structured plays to find open running lanes and taking marks ahead of their opponents.
Although accuracy may not have fully rewarded their efforts, the synergy between the forwards and midfielders was a promising sign for Claremont.
The defenders demonstrated their exceptional footy IQ by recognising the importance of holding their positions when Subiaco's forwards were drawn into contests. This strategic awareness resulted in numerous easy intercept marks, effectively stifling Subiaco's offensive efforts.
Claremont's defenders showcased their ability to read the play and capitalise on their opponents' errors, further contributing to their dominant performance.
Whether it was inherent or a result of their focused approach, Claremont's well-established structure played a crucial role in their convincing victory over Subiaco, with a final score of 9.8 (62) to 1.0 (6).
Charlotte Tompkin with no surprise was outstanding again today, shaking tackles whilst laying aggressive yet clean tackles of her own. At times it appeared as if she intentionally allowed her opponent to take position, confident in her ability to take the target on one-on-one.
Tompkin kicked two impressive goals including a remarkable snap from 40 metres out. Tompkin continues to develop her skills whether that be in the Rogers or League squad and is a delight to watch due to her decision-making abilities.
Isabella Birch had a strong performance against the Lions on the weekend, putting together a solid display. Although she missed a few shots on goal, her excellent marking inside 50 created several opportunities for Claremont. Birch's contributions in transition were also vital, as she ran off a half-forward position, providing a spark for her team.
It seems that Birch is on the verge of a breakout performance, as she continues to build momentum and influence on the field. Her efforts were ultimately rewarded with a well-deserved goal in the final quarter.
India Bonadeo's inclusion in the inaugural All-Australian Under 16 Girls squad is a testament to her exceptional talent, and her performance in this game only reinforced why she earned such recognition.
She demonstrated her prowess in winning clearances, a key aspect of her game that she takes great pride in. Moreover, Bonadeo exhibited excellent vision and playmaking skills, whilst also managing to put a goal next to her name on the scoreboard.
This achievement is undoubtedly a source of immense pride for Bonadeo, and she will certainly strive to carry this exceptional form into the remaining matches of the 2023 season.
Jess Freame and Amy Evans were notable contributors, displaying polished ball skills in the midfield and effectively linking up with the forwards. Among the forwards, Savannah Muir stood out in this match.
Despite scoring just one goal, Muir's offensive efforts across the ground were exceptional. She consistently led into successful positions, contributing to numerous scoring plays and showcasing her impact on the game.
