Round 2 Rogers Match Report – Claremont Tigers Vs Peel Thunder
Sebastian Hasluck
Match Day Reporter
Claremont Rogers first home game of the season sees them climbing to the top of the 2023 ladder as they hold off a hungry Peel Thunder side at Revo Fitness Stadium.
Claremont led the game early, and whilst highly contested for the second and third quarter, the Tigers were able to break away with their highest scoring term coming in the final quarter. The Tigers defeating Peel Thunder 7.5 (47) to 3.3 (21) to give Claremont their second win of the season.
The match predominantly was won through the corridor as both teams opted to use this method as their main avenue to score. Both teams’ defensive lines were tested today with Claremont’s prevailing as the strongest.
Bridie Garlick for the second week in a row impressed as she led her defensive six to first, second and third efforts around the contest. Garlick thwarted several Peel Thunder forward 50 entries, by either holding strong in marking contests or winning the ball off the opposition. Garlick was a clear best on ground today as she read the play well, whilst also dominating as one of Claremont’s main possession winners.
Shannon Bistrup also stood strong on the last line of defence, taking some pivotal marks to swing the momentum of the game, before sadly going down in the last quarter with a possible ankle injury.
The Tigers handball craft in the middle of the ground shone today as the ball was being brought to ground more often. Ruby Freeman and India Bonadeo were often linked up in several passages that led the Tigers into their attacking forward 50. Both Freeman and Bonadeo were able to float forward and capitalise on their opportunities, with a goal for each of them.
Georgia Webb led Claremont’s goal tally in Sunday’s outing, leaving the park with two goals to her name. Both of which were crucial in stopping Peel’s attacking pressure as they started to find more of the footy through some of their quicker users.
Charlotte Tompkin also impressed today as she created immense forward pressure, to help lock the ball inside the Tigers forward line. She was rewarded for her efforts in the form of a late goal in the fourth term, as she snapped a goal from the middle of the pack.
The Claremont Rogers continued their form as a high scoring side as they now turn to face the Perth Demons in Round 3, which will take place at Mineral Resources Park this coming Saturday at 12pm. This will be the first time our Claremont Rogers go head-to-head with the new Perth Demons side, as they look to cement themselves into the already competitive Rogers competition.
