VALE GEOFF WILSON
By Ken Casellas
Claremont supporters are saddened at the passing of Geoff Wilson, a member of the club’s 1964 WAFL premiership side.
The Victorian-born Wilson, a diminutive rover, died in Melbourne last week at the age of 82.
He became the seventh member of the 1964 premiership side to die, following John Grieve, Ian Brewer, John Rogers, Irwin Lewis, Kevin Clune and John McIntosh.
Wilson started in a forward pocket and shared the roving with captain Les Mumme and John Parkinson in the memorable grand final in which the Tigers defeated East Fremantle by four points at Subiaco Oval on October 10.
He played 31 VFL matches for Hawthorn in 1958-59-60 before joining Claremont in 1962. He played two league matches in 1962, eight in 1963 and 21 in his final season at Claremont in 1964.
Wilson also was coach of Claremont’s thirds side in 1963 and 1964 when Parkinson, Lindsay Carroll and Russell Reynolds were members of that team.
