VALE DR JOHN HARVEY
By Ken Casellas
Claremont officials, players and supporters are grieving the death last Saturday of Dr John Harvey, an ardent supporter and dedicated volunteer.
Dr Harvey, who was 81, worked uncomplainingly as a club doctor from 1986 to 2002, who during that time was assisted by other doctors Peter Tunbridge, Rob Fitzpatrick, Clay Golledge and Peter Steele.
Before that, Dr Harvey was a member of the club’s football development sub-committee in 1982 and 1983, and he was honoured with a merit award in 1992 and life membership of Claremont seven years later.
Dr Harvey was a keen supporter, and he was a regular attendee at Claremont’s home matches this year. One of his sons, Richard, was a member of Claremont’s league premiership side in 1996. He was a redoubtable defender who represented the Tigers in 164 senior matches.
