JIM KRAKOUER - WA FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME
It is with considerable pride for the Claremont Football Club that Jim Krakouer be inducted into the WA Football Hall of Fame.
Krakouer delighted West Australian football followers with his remarkable skills and sheer brilliance in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Jim was a diminutive rover, blessed with incredible acceleration, dazzling speed, faultless ball-handling skills and precision passing with his right foot, and along with his younger brother Phil, developed into one of the most exciting and skilful partnerships in the history of WA football. The little magicians enjoyed an unique brotherly bond as they bewildered the opposition with their rare on-field understanding and vastly different styles.
Both had a wonderful rapport with Claremont captain-coach Graham Moss, and Jim’s combination with Moss bordered on perfection, while his unerring foot-passing made life a pure joy for the club’s champion full-forward Warren Ralph.
Jim’s wizardry thrilled spectators in his 88 matches for Claremont kicking 214 goals, many from seemingly impossible angles, before he and his brother joined North Melbourne after playing important roles in Claremont’s 1981 premiership victory over South Fremantle.
Jim was the club’s leading goalkicker, with 52 goals, in 1978, and after finishing equal sixth in the 1980 Sandover Medal, he was third in the prestigious award in 1981, the same year he won the Simpson Medal for his brilliant performance against South Australia. He also won Claremont’s fairest-and-best award that year.
Krakouer will be awarded this honour at the upcoming Sandover and Hall of Fame Dinner on Tuesday 28th May.
