ROUND 1 PREVIEW: CLAREMONT V SWAN DISTRICTS
BY DAN SCAMOZZI
A fierce contest is set to unfold when the mighty Claremont Tigers face rivals Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership Season.
The home-and-away season will consist of 20 rounds, with each team to play each other twice before a four-week finals series, while the length of quarters will revert back to 20 minutes (plus time-on).
Claremont recorded wins against Peel Thunder and East Perth in its pre-season games and will be aiming for a strong start to the season as it embarks on a new and exciting journey.
Midfielders Declan Mountford and Jared Hardisty will co-captain the Tigers in 2021, with Jye Bolton (vice-captain), Kane Mitchell, Jack Lewsey and Anton Hamp rounding out the six-man leadership team.
Francis Watson, Jake Patmore, Anthony Treacy, Jason Carter and Isaiah Butters have all returned from the AFL, while a number of Colts and Reserves players will push for selection.
Senior coach Ashley Prescott will be assisted by Anthony Rock (backline), Andrew Foster (midfield) and Anthony Jones (forwards), while Darren Harper will coach the Reserves and Matt Angus will coach the Colts.
Forward Alex Manuel is set to play his 50th game.
The Claremont Football Club encourages members and fans to make the trip to Bassendean to support the mighty Tigers.
