Owen Geoffrey McClements – Life Member CFC Past Players & Officials Association

Geoff (as he was known) was born in 1923.  His association with the Claremont Football Club began at an early age as his father, Owen James McClements, had been the captain of the then Claremont-Cottesloe Football Club the previous year. He spent a lot of his early years at the Club and this culminated in him playing several reserves matches under coach Jack Reeves.

In 1941, at the age of 18, he joined the Royal Australian Navy.  He served for 6 years on the ASIS Poyang which supplied ammunition to Australian and US war-ships in the Pacific. On numerous occasions, and as recently as 2018, our Club has had the privilege of Geoff reading The Ode at our ANZAC day game.

After finishing his football career, Geoff became a member of the Past Players & Officials Association.  He moved into a position on the Committee and then served as President in 1979. His dedication and commitment were acknowledged in 1984 when he was awarded Life Membership of the CFC Past Players & Officials Association.

In recent years, Geoff has attained some prestigious Awards.  In 2016, he was bestowed the honour of Freeman of the Town of Claremont which recognised his outstanding commitment and contribution to the Claremont Community.  In 2020, Geoff received his Returned and Services League 50 year Certificate and the Claremont RSL have had a plaque raised in his honour - The Geoff McClements Living Legend Plaque.

In 2016, Geoff was also named ANZAC of the Year.
