CLAREMONT 2019 AFL DRAFT PICKS
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 6 PLAYERS WHO GOT PICKED UP IN THE 2019 AFL DRAFT!
ANTHONY TREACY
Rookie Draft Pick #11 by West Coast Eagles
Were you expecting this?
"I was not expecting it at all, honestly thought I was going to get completely overlooked and I was getting ready for TAFE this morning and just looked at the live update and saw my name and was like no way, and I took the day off and went to West Coast and did the media, it's been crazy"
What were you studying and are you hoping to continue to study?
"Studying Horticulture, not 100% sure if I'll be continuing as I will have to speak to the club to see if I can still do once a week to continue it, but I also wouldn't mind having a break and going all out footy. But landscaping is what I do so it would be good to continue it"
How are you dealing with it all?
"Doing pretty good, still a lot of messages to reply to and it's still sinking in, I can’t believe it"
What does everyone back home in Broome think of this?
"Everybody is just going crazy back home, it's blown up over social media. Everyone has just been contacting everyone in my family at home, and they said that everyone's going crazy"
What are your goals for 2020?
"Make sure I tick all the boxes at West Coast, do everything possible to try and get some league games, like Claremont all over again but on a bigger level"
Before this, were you a Dockers or an Eagles supporter?
"Dockers" [laughs]
RONIN O'CONNOR
Pick #42 by Adelaide Crows
How do you feel about being drafted to the Adelaide Crows?
"Really excited, grateful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to see what happens at the club in the next few years"
Were you expecting this?
"Not pick 42, thought I'd go a bit later maybe a later round or a rookie"
What are your goals for 2020?
"Pushing for senior side, and getting my body right and increasing my fitness"
Do you have any family in Adelaide? Will you be moving alone?
"No family in Adelaide, planning on moving alone at the moment but there’s nothing stopping my parents from coming over too"
LIAM HENRY
Pick #9 by Fremantle Dockers
CALLUM JAMIESON
Pick #49 by West Coast Eagles
LENO THOMAS
NGA Pick by Fremantle Dockers
ISAIAH BUTTERS
NGA Pick by Fremantle Dockers
MESSAGE FROM OUR TALENT MANAGER
As the Claremont Talent Manager, I think I speak on behalf of all Claremont Football Club Staff, Coaches, Volunteers, Members and Supporters in congratulating all of the players who were lucky enough to get drafted to AFL Clubs in the National and Rookie Drafts over the last few days. It’s an extremely exciting time for the players and their families and we wish them all the best in what we hope will be long AFL careers.
Liam, Ronin, Callum, Anthony, Leno and Isaiah have all come from very different backgrounds and are all very unique and talented players in their own right, but most importantly they are great characters and I’m confident that they will be welcomed with open arms to their respective new clubs.
From a selfish point of view I’m sad to see them leave us as they would have looked great in Claremont colours next season as we continue to strive for our next League Premiership, but they are all very deserving of the opportunity and I can’t wait to see what they can do over the next few years.
Along with the success stories, there are always disappointments over the Draft period and I think it’s important that we also turn our focus to all of the young men who have not achieved their goal. I’m sure all of those boys will be as motivated as ever and we look forward to working with them to continue developing their football and setting themselves up for a big 2020 season at the club.
Warren Parker – Claremont Talent Manager
