Reserves: Lions Too Strong For Tigers
By Daniel Scamozzi
Claremont’s Reserves suffered a 42-point defeat against Subiaco in the preliminary final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, with the disappointing performance ending the Tigers’ season.
The Lions’ 11.14 (80) to 5.8 (38) win secures them a spot in the grand final against East Perth, while the Tigers will lick their wounds but be back bigger and better in 2019.
In a tough but scrappy contest played in glorious conditions, the Lions’ strength in the contest and outside run proved too much for the Tigers, who, were indirect and lacked application.
Bullocking utility Isaac Wallace (nine tackles) was Claremont’s best player and won the players’ player award for the second time in seven days after winning his midfield battle with Subiaco’s Adam Cockie, while ruckman Jeremy Goddard (47 hit-outs, four tackles, one goal) continued his outstanding finish to the season.
Rebounding defender Jack Lewsey (team-high 16 disposals) was prominent, while Dylan Smallwood blanketed Subiaco forward Brad Stevenson (one mark, one goal).
Meanwhile, midfielder Morgan Davies laid a game-high 13 tackles.
Ray Daniels kicked a game-high two goals for the Lions, while midfielder Craig Hoskins recorded a game-high 25 disposals.
