KRSP CUP Preview
Sunday March 4th
Claremont Colts v Kimberley Spirit
The Claremont Colts will travel to the Kimberley Region this March Long-Weekend to visit the community of Warmun and play a competitive match against the Kimberley Spirit in Kununurra.
Now in its 5th year, the KRSP Cup gives our Metro and Great Southern Colts Players the opportunity to visit the remote Kimberley region and learn more about the area which our Kimberley zoned players call home.
It also gives the Kimberley Spirit Squad the opportunity to take part in an intensive 3-day camp made up of various on and off field educational seminars including nutrition, career pathways, football pathways, and the opportunity to test their skills against the Claremont Colts Squad which they aim to join in the coming seasons.
The Spirit program plays a pivotal role in Country player development and gives Kimberley based players access to a high standard of education and training which is critical to those who aim of transitioning to Perth in their 18th year to pursue opportunities at Claremont in the WAFL Colts system.
A number of very talented players have made this transition over the last 5 years including Carlton’s future superstar Sam Petrevski-Seton, West Coast’s smooth moving Francis Watson along with Claremont cult figure C.J. Oakley and the emerging talents of Shaquille Morton, Damon Enosa, Cain Shaw, Elijah Murray and many more.
The transition from the Kimberley region to Perth and into an elite WAFL environment is an extremely hard one for the young men that call the region home. Moving far away from family and friends to the city can provide these young men with many challenges.
Exposing our Metro and Great Southern players and staff to the region helps to provide an understanding of these challenges. This in turn allows them to offer support during their years at the Claremont Football Club, making it a positive environment which encourages retention of the elite talent that calls the Kimberley region home.
The Claremont Football Club would like to acknowledge the support of Kimberley Regional Service Providers for their continued support of the program. KRSP have been very generous sponsors of the initiative and without their support, it would not be possible. We hope the partnership continues long into the future.
Bounce Down between the Claremont Colts and Kimberley Spirit is 10:00am at the Kununurra Agricultural Society Show Grounds in Kununurra.
