JOHN (BUCK) ROGERS
1941 - 2017
The Claremont Football Club lost one of its favourite sons in John ( Buck ) Rogers this week. John passed away peacefully at home on 2nd August surrounded by his wife Jenny and his family.
Buck, as he was known by Tiger members and supporters, commenced his league career with Claremont in 1959 and was a member of the triumphant 1964 Premiership team. He was a rugged back pocket player known for his many antics when standing the mark in defence.
Following his retirement in 1965 John continued his strong association with the Club serving as a Board member for a number of years and coaching the Colts. He and his wife Jenny attended almost all Claremont games and many Club functions. Even his deteriorating health over the years failed to keep him away from the Club.
John established a very successful media career hosting Channel Seven’s World of Football during the 1970s and commentating on both radio and television.
The Board, staff, players, members and supporters of the Claremont Football Club join with the wider Western Australian sporting community in conveying our deepest sympathy to Jenny and his family.
Jenny and the girls have invited Buck’s friends to join them to celebrate his life at the Claremont Football Club on Thursday 10th August from 12.00pm. There is ample parking available in the Davies Road car park immediately across from the Club. If this car park is full guests can park in the dedicated Claremont Football Club carpark adjacent to the railway line on Shenton Avenue.
The carpark is sign posted Claremont Football Club Permit Holders only however this will not apply on Thursday. Entry to this car park is off Shenton Road at the Eastern end of the car park.
We look forward to paying our respects to and celebrating the life of a true Tiger stalwart.
