Women's Football Report - Claremont v East Fremantle

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 11:22 AM

League

The Tigers suffered a disappointing 58 point loss to East Fremantle on Sunday. After a promising start in what was an even first quarter, East Fremantle took control for the remainder of the game through a superior physical presence, work rate and overall better use of the football.

Despite the result, there were still positives to come out of the game. Allana Dickie was outstanding with her desperation and attack on the footy, Parris Laurie along with Bella Zadnik worked tirelessly in the ruck, first year player Lindsey Kenyon impressed in an important run with role on one of six AFLW players for the Sharks and State 18’s representative Tildi Sergeant continues to shine in her debut season with the seniors. It was pleasing to see the on-going development from many of our other first year players including Maddy White, Holly and Pip Harrison and Leigha Erceg.

The club now has a week off with the general bye. With a 5 wins 2 losses record at the half way stage of the season, we will continue to train strong and smart for an improved performance against West Perth in the next game.

Reserves

The Reserves gave four quarters of effort on Sunday leaving nothing in the tank however in the end were defeated by a more experienced East Fremantle side.

There was much to like about the Tigers performance with a number of players embracing new roles and standing up under the pressure.

Intriguingly we had two more scoring shots than the Sharks in comparison with our round two clash where East Fremantle had three times as many shots on goal. Our inability to kick goals was the difference.

Best players were Ellen D'Cruz, Grace Dempster and Erin O’Brien.
