Development Report - Tigers Record First Win
By Dan Scamozzi
Claremont’s Reserves recorded their first win for the season after smashing a woeful East Perth by 78 points at Leederville Oval.
A brilliant team performance was the catalyst for victory in perfect conditions, with the Tigers prevailing 17.6 (108) to 5.0 (30) to end a two-game losing streak.
112 more disposals and 18 more scoring shots were features of the win, with Kaiden Gilbert kicking four goals in his first game for the season, while Eddie Simpson, Sam Bevan and Gerrick Weedon each kicked three.
Morgan Davies (29 disposals, four tackles, two goals) was outstanding from start to finish with his courage and attack on the ball, while Lachlan Martinis (23 disposals, eight marks, six tackles) took home the players’ player award for his terrific efforts in defence.
Dylan Smallwood made a fine debut, while Matthew Palfrey (30 disposals) and Tom Shanahan (29 disposals, one goal) found plenty of the ball.
Chris (CJ) Oakley applied his trademark pressure on the opposition and laid six tackles as the Tigers won every term and registered their highest score since round 21, 2016.
On a sour note, the hard-working Max Bentley had his game prematurely ended after suffering a knee injury in the second term.
Claremont will aim to record consecutive wins when they face South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Good Friday.
Meanwhile, Claremont’s Colts recorded consecutive wins after a 10-point victory over East Perth, 9.12 (66) to 8.8 (56).
