Round 15 Development Report - Claremont v Perth
Tigers maintain winning run
by Dan Scamozzi
Claremont (Reserves) recorded its sixth straight win after defeating Perth by 26 points at the Showgrounds last Saturday.
The 11.15 (81) to 8.7 (55) victory saw the Tigers close to within one win of top spot on the ladder and was set up by a five-goal-to-one opening term.
Rowen Powell led the way for Claremont with 31 disposals, eight marks, six inside 50s and two goals, and was well supported by Justin Speed (26 disposals, seven marks, seven inside 50s).
Hugo Breakey kicked two majors and was one of nine goal kickers for the Tigers, while Eddie Simpson gave Claremont’s midfield first use with 26 hit outs.
Callum Walley played a lone hand in the Demons’ forward line by kicking six goals despite being reported, while Marshall Jones (24 disposals, eight marks, one goal) battled manfully, however, the visitors could only manage 33 inside 50s compared to Claremont’s 54 and conceded 11 more scoring shots.
Claremont will look to record its seventh straight win and draw level with second-placed South Fremantle when it travels to Fremantle Community Bank Oval to face the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Claremont 7.12 (54) chalked up its fourth straight win after defeating Perth 5.6 (36) by 18 points in the Colts to move into second position on the ladder.
