Zac Langdon, a robust and highly effective small forward when he made 25 league appearances with Claremont in 2016 and 2017, has rejoined the Tigers this year as senior coach Ash Prescott’s defensive coach. Though used almost exclusively as a forward at Claremont and then in his 56 AFL appearances — 31 in three seasons for the GWS Giants and 25 for the West Coast Eagles in 2021 and 2022 — the 30-year-old Langdon has excellent credentials as a back-line assistant coach. He shone with his defensive pressure as a forward when he laid 186 tackles in AFL ranks, and in his 42 WAFL appearances he was credited with 164 tackles.
The 176cm Langdon was recruited by Claremont from the Dampier Sharks, and in 2016 he lined up in 11 reserves matches and 11 in the league side before playing 14 league matches the following year. He then was taken by the GWS Giants in the 2017 AFL national draft. After three years with GWS Langdon was traded to West Coast at the end of the 2020 season, and he played in 25 AFL matches for the Eagles in 2021 and 2022 as well as appearing in ten WAFL matches for West Coast in that period before he joined West Perth and played in seven WAFL matches for the Cardinals in 2023.
Langdon takes over as the back-line coach from Mark McGough, who has the job this year as the coach of the midfielders; Glenn McCallum remains as the forwards coach, and Ben Dyer has the role as the stoppages/structures coach.
