Evans boasts a proud record

Tony Evans has the rare distinction of being one of a few players to have starred in two WAFL grand finals and two AFL grand finals, and, quite remarkably, he scored three goals in each of those four matches.
Since his playing days he has retained his close association with Claremont, and for the past eight years he has served as a club director, following his invaluable contribution as a member of football affairs committees.
The 56-year-old Evans has now decided not to stand for re-election on to the Claremont Board of management to spend more time on his businesses and family. This will leave a vacancy on the board.
Grant Povey will be seeking re-election as club president, and retiring directors Jenny Rogers and Tim Sullivan will also be nominating for re-election.
Evans, a strongly-built rover-forward, was a fearless and skillful player who was runner-up to Mark Hann as Claremont’s fairest and best league player in 1990. He was drafted as a 19-year-old in 1989 by the West Coast Eagles, and he appeared in 108 AFL matches for the club, scoring 78 goals.
He demonstrated his big-match temperament with excellent performances in West Coast’s grand final victories in 1992 and 1994, in which he kicked three goals in each match. He also kicked three goals in each of Claremont’s 1989 and 1991 grand final victories against South Fremantle and Subiaco, respectively. He was an outstanding member of  Claremont sides when he made 75 league appearances and scored 115 goals.
