Round 3 Rogers Match Report – Claremont Tigers vs Perth Demons:
Sebastian Hasluck
Match Day Reporter
Round 3 saw the Tigers face their biggest challenge yet from the Perth Demons, whilst the score line may not reflect this narrative, it was a second half flurry of goals that eased the intense pressure built through the first two terms.
The newly established Perth Demons were hungry from the outset, as they pursue to bring home their first win of the season and inaugural victory for their Rogers team. The Tigers battled it out with the Demons in a heavily contested first half, where the ball was seemingly stuck in transition between each team’s offensive half, up and down the corridor. Claremont found their momentum in the second half, off the back of defensive intercepts, where their defensive and midfield lines were able to find some clean entries into the forward 50.
Claremont Tigers finished up at Mineral Resources Park, convincingly defeating Perth Demons 11.7 (73) to 4.5 (29). This win helps Claremont boost their already healthy percentage to see them maintain top position on the 2023 Rogers season ladder.
India Bonadeo and Charlotte Tompkin were dominant all day as they controlled a lot of the ball throughout the match, whilst creatively finding space in the midfield to link up to the high half forwards.
Charlotte Tompkin led the Tigers goal scoring tally, kicking three goals for the day, with a few missed chances for more. Tompkin’s crucial second term goal just before half time, put Claremont one goal clear which helped the Tigers stem the building pressure that the Demons had applied. Tompkin impressed throughout the game, as she found good positioning around the ground, whilst also leading by example with her continuous pressure acts.
India Bonadeo also led by example by having a monumental third quarter, to help Claremont pull away with a strong scoring lead going into the fourth. Bonadeo kicked both of her two goals for the day in the third term. Not only was Bonadeo presence felt on the scoring board but around the ground as well, as she smothered, marked and created options going into the forward half.
The Demons side whilst competitive throughout the day didn’t manage to score a goal after halftime, due to a strong defensive unit led by Phoebe Browne. Browne was able to step up and shine in the absence of a few key promotions to the League side this weekend. Browne’s defensive efforts combined with her vision for exiting the defensive 50, helped the Claremont defensive six to not concede another goal in the second half.
Amelie Moe had a strong influence over the game all day, floating where needed and taking a few critical intercept marks. Moe racked up the possessions and had several shots for goal, however she was finally rewarded for her continual efforts by scoring the two opening goals of the last quarter. Moe’s counterpart in tall forward Savannah Muir also enjoyed in the goal frenzy, putting two goals next to her name in the second quarter.
The Rogers continually impress with their desire to get better each week, whilst managing to finish off each of their games stronger than they start them. The Claremont Rogers side will be taking a well-deserved rest next weekend as they head into their bye round. On the other side of their bye in Round 5, The Tigers take on Swan Districts for the first Rogers game of the day at Revo Fitness Stadium. This game taking place at 9:00am on the 7th of April at the start of the easter long weekend.
