Round 20 Preview: Perth v Claremont

Wednesday, August 2, 2017 - 2:55 PM

By Dan Scamozzi

Claremont enter the final month of the home-and-away season knowing they must win their remaining four matches, starting with Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday, if they are to have any chance of making the finals.

After suffering a four-point loss to East Perth in round 19, the Tigers still find themselves two wins outside the top five, but need to end a four-game losing streak to have any chance of featuring in September.

Meanwhile, Perth, who had a bye in round 19, will be aiming to end a nine-game losing streak and remain off the bottom of the ladder.

League Report: Tigers Fall Short of Royals

Tuesday, August 1, 2017 - 1:58 PM

By Dan Scamozzi

A fourth consecutive loss has left Claremont two games outside the top five and needing a miracle to play finals, after the Tigers suffered a heart-breaking four-point defeat to East Perth at Claremont Oval.

Despite a goalless first quarter, marred by poor ball use and several turnovers, the Tigers battled bravely but ended up losing 10.10 (70) to 11.8 (74).

East Perth’s cleaner ball use, better decision making and ability to take their chances were the differences between the teams, as the Tigers suffered their 10th loss of the season.

Development Report: Tigers Overrun by Royals

Monday, July 31, 2017 - 4:36 PM

By Dan Scamozzi

Claremont’s Reserves’ inconsistent form continued at Claremont Oval in round 19, with East Perth delivering the hosts a 29-point loss in cold and wet conditions.

Despite fielding one of their strongest teams of the season and holding a two-point lead at three-quarter time, the Tigers were held goalless in the final term as the hosts slammed on five unanswered majors to prevail 8.13 (61) to 4.8 (32).

The disappointing loss leaves Claremont in second position on the ladder, but with plenty of areas for improvement.

League Report: Andrews flies the flag

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 - 12:10 PM

By Ken Casellas

He’s not flash and he’s not fancy. But Claremont’s Mitch Andrews produced yet another superb display against red-hot premiership favourites Subiaco at Ports Oval in Esperance on Saturday to enhance his reputation as the State’s best ruckman.

The 30-year-old Andrews rolled up his sleeves and flexed his muscles to dominate the hit-outs and stoppages in a wholehearted, herculean display against a ruthlessly efficient and highly-skilled opposition.

Sadly, it was in vain as the Tigers were beaten by 40 points by a high-flying side which brought up its 14th win in succession.

Development Report: Simpson Inspires Tigers

Monday, July 17, 2017 - 11:20 AM

By Dan Scamozzi

A six-goal haul from Eddie Simpson inspired Claremont’s Reserves to a 37-point win against Subiaco at Leederville Oval.

Simpson, omitted from the League team following the round 16 loss to South Fremantle, responded in ominous fashion by hauling in seven marks and providing a focal point in the 14.15 (99) to 9.8 (62) win, which sees the Tigers maintain second position on the ladder after their 10th win of the season.

Despite eight less inside 50s, the Tigers recorded 80 more disposals, 18 more tackles and 12 more scoring shots, built on the back of superb defensive efforts by acting captain Bailey Rogers (27 disposals, eight marks), Declan Hardisty (players’ player award) and Luke Maddock (20 disposals).
