McQueen wins JJ Leonard Medal
By Dan Scamozzi
Claremont Colts coach Ross McQueen won the JJ Leonard Medal for WAFL Coach of the Year at Monday night’s Sandover Medal.
McQueen has been involved with the club in a variety of roles, and will coach the Colts in their fourth consecutive grand final when they meet East Perth on Sunday.
The team will be looking to go back-to-back after demolishing Swan Districts last year.
McQueen took over as Colts coach from Ben Dyer ahead of the 2014 season, and has coached the team to three grand finals in three years.
McQueen previously coached Claremont’s Reserves for four years, including a hat-trick of flags between 2010-12.
Prior to that, McQueen was an assistant coach to Simon McPhee for the Tigers Colts in 2007 and 2008 and a League assistant to McPhee in 2009.
McQueen first became involved with the club in 2003 when he was a runner for McPhee’s Reserves side.
The club congratulates Ross on his achievement, applauds the rest of his coaching and support staff who have done a wonderful job in the Colts’ sustained success, and wishes the team the best of luck for Sunday.
